Mouse double-clicking by itself?
When a single press registers as two clicks, the switch inside the mouse is usually worn or dirty. This test flags two clicks that arrive less than 80 milliseconds apart, which is faster than anyone can click on purpose.
- Check the double-click speed setting in Windows (Mouse settings) or macOS (Pointer Control) to rule out a setting.
- Try another USB port or fresh batteries for a wireless mouse.
- Blow out dust around the button with compressed air.
- Use the warranty. Switch failure is a common, covered fault.
Mouse test questions
How do I test if my mouse double-clicks?
Click the left button slowly several times in the box. If the result shows unwanted double clicks, the switch is registering one press as two clicks.
What is mouse polling rate?
How many times per second the mouse reports its position. 125 Hz is basic, 500–1000 Hz is typical for gaming mice. Move the mouse quickly in the box to measure it.
Why don't my side buttons show up?
Some mice need their own software for extra buttons, and some browsers don't report them. Back and Forward usually work in Chrome and Edge.
